The klapa of the island of Rab

The best explanation of the klapa was written by the father of the klapa among the Croats, maestro Ljubo Stipišić Delmata,
“They are everywhere today, not just in Dalmatia and the coast but also all over our homeland and in the Diaspora (Australia, Canada and elsewhere) – more than three hundred traditional male and female singing groups popularly known as klapa.

Melodies and songs remain in the world even after the death of their original progenitors – some of them unknown, some known – to seek beauty and truth through their harmonies. And as a song it only fully begins to live – indeed it is only truly born some distant day in the future – after its birth and after the death of its anonymous progenitors... That is why in these songs there live not only its original creators, but all the generations that, inspired, carried them through and on, and those generations which are yet to be born and which will take up the legacy when the time comes. Here in the song are the people, our unknown ancestors, our honoured forefathers, singers from the sooty hearth of this Dalmatian, coastal Croatian people."
